Design*Sponge + The Hottest Color for Spring 2010

Happy Friday!! I've had to put the blog on the back burner for a bit, because I am completely up to my knees with the weddings coming on this spring. We've been geeking-out on lots of goodies {wedding stuff} @ our nightly craft bashes on Commercial Street. It's been so much fun!

I'm grateful this week, for some little rants on the blogosphere! Design*Sponge and 417 Mag. {You can see the story here and a little rave here.}

Love this image by Convey Studios. Note: Katie, our brilliant model, {and artist} spray-painted her own shoes for the shoot. LOVE that color!! And you want to know something else?...According to Elle Decor, turquoise is the hottest color for 2010, and is not going away any time soon.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!!

Sharon Taylor Designs: Blog Love

Here is one of the final photos of the nursery I designed and just completed. I am so honored to say that the nursery was featured on several of my most favorite blogs. You can see a story on Project Nursery or Little Luna Lu, and Plush Palate. Everyone has been so incredibly nice about the end result.

AND on a little side note, not only is the nursery featured on Project Nursery's blog, it actually soared to the top ranking nursery in their gallery in less than 48 hours. I think it's the only nursery to be given a five star rating, so far. But, I would love your help in continuing to vote it up. If you haven't voted, please do! And thanks in advance!! You have to first register, leave a comment, and then make sure you click the fifth elephant! Here's the link.

Extremely pleased to say the least, but many thanks are in order starting with all of you who voted me up. Thank you!! Also, special thanks to Meghan, Baby Harlow, Dawn Shields Photography, Sister Millie Johnson, and all the others who really pulled this room together!

With all this talk of things in the water, I have to tell you that I am so excited for Susanna Salk's book, Room for Children, which hits books stores today!

AND, last but not least. I have to tell you, in case you don't know, about 9 by Design. It's a reality design show featuring Robert and Cortney Novogratz, of Sixx Design, and their seven beautiful children who renovate some really killer properties in large urban cities! So inspiring!! It airs tonight on Bravo 10/9 Central time. TUNE in and then let me know what you think.

Happy Monday and Spring, Dearests!!

MMmmuuuhhh!! {Big Kisses}

Sweet Sixteen Settee

Happy Friday!

Remember how we started a room makeover for Eleanor a while back? Well, that was four months ago. All progress basically stopped after that overly-ambitious post.

No specific reason for slacking. Just waiting for inspiration, I suppose. And now that we have Easter under our jelly-belly shoes and belts, I'm reminded that we should set some little candies out for sweet, sweet, Eleanor, who will be Sweet Sixteen in a little over a month! {Please feel free to e-mail me and tell me I don't look old enough to be a mom of a sixteen year old.} Note: I had someone ask me if Sylvie was my grand-daughter.

Design Notes I've Taped to My Forehead {a sign of stubbornness, not my age!}: It's not my room. It's hers. Eleanor knows exactly what she wants!

I took Eleanor flea marketing today. She wants a mix of colorful, modern, and vintage. I showed her a few things I'd seen while out sourcing for other projects I'm working on. What I didn't expect us to find, was this gorgeous Marie Antoinette settee. $100 bucks!!! + the cost of a case of Febreeze. We're not sure how it will fit into her tiny bedroom, but she said it is going to go in her room, no matter what.

Things Eleanor Has for the Room So Far: "The Sweet Sixteen Settee". Freshly painted "Shaker Gray" Walls. A Dusty/Steel blue tufted headboard. A West-Elm-ish looking bed that is painted black{Will built}, and a retro desk painted "Vanity Pink". All in all, we've got a lot of frou-frou that needs to just sit back down a little bit to let some more modern pieces take to the floor.

Things We Are Looking For:
Eleanor knows she wants a modern rug, and art on her walls. A colorful bedspread, and a modern floor lamp that swoops over her as she reads all the time.

Eleanor's Wish List:
Marjorie Skouras Chandelier {this is actually on my wish list for her room...she's never seen it! Where's the tape?}
A Fiona Curran "Fantastic Journey" Rug: Inspired by 19th Century French Wallpaper

So what do you all think? I'll post pictures of the actual room as we make progress. Any suggestions on where to find some really cool rugs that don't cost like $8,000?

What do you have planned for the weekend? We're picnicking at the park with all of my siblings' families. I can't wait to see all my nieces and nephs!

Ta-Ta for now!!

TIME Magazine

As you know, my sister, Julie Blackmon, has been doing some pretty amazing things. This latest one, has to be one of the biggest highlights of her career to date. She was asked to shoot the cover for Time Magazine! My niece, Mabel, who's a natural, is the sweet little model.

It should hit news stands today. The article, {which I have not read yet}, is about a study that reveals some pretty controversial findings regarding bribing kids for good grades. I can't wait to get my copy, read it, and frame it!

I also can't help but think what dad would be doing today, if he were alive. He'd be at National Art Shop having fifty copies enlarged, framed in gold, and placed in a glass showcase in our living room.

Proud Sister,
Sharon

Happy Friday!

Over the Easter Hump

I I hope you had a some great holidays. We had a swell Easter. I had to share all these teens to toddlers on Easter. This line-up of cousins is Sylvie, Mabel, Albert, Ralph, Birdie, and Goldie {just six of the twenty first cousins}. It seems to be an ever growing problem to get us all together for a family shot. Sylvie's bow lasted all but about two seconds...with the help of a strawberry distraction. Stella, my niece, and Eleanor make picture taking really effortless. Our day was filled with wonderful family time and beautiful weather.

Working a little this week on finishing up undone tasks and a few design dilemmas that were thrown my way. Good Friday was followed by a bad Monday, but that's all in the past...
